After diplomatic formalities, consultations (our country has not yet had this kind of experience) and different tones (Romania wanted to join our detachment, which Yugoslavia refused), the decision was made to form an advance guard of 44 men (officers) on November 14 , non-commissioned officers and soldiers) led by Colonel Radovan Vojvodić. They took off on November 16 in four JRV planes, and after a break in Athens, arrived in Abu Suweir on November 17. Having created an approximate picture on the ground, our military and state leadership made a decision that the gathering place and formation of the Detachment should be in the Zagreb garrison. The First and Seventh Army Regions prepared one motorized rifle company, and the Fifth Region prepared all other units. The command of the Detachment itself did not deal with formation and logistics. The command of the Fifth Army Region, which was then commanded by Colonel-General Rade Hamović, was responsible for this, and the command of the Detachment would take over the formed Detachment. This was soon done, and on November 21, 1956, General Hamović handed over the flag to the first commander of the Detachment, Colonel Nikola Radošević. The assistant for political work and morale ("commissioner") was Colonel Branko Borojević. On that day, a test march was also performed, after which the Detachment boarded the train, and the part of the personnel that did not pass the final medical check was returned to their units. During the formation itself, there were many problems because all this was done for the first time and could not be compared to anything. The formation was a real organizational feat because it was carried out in an effective five days.
