The Air Force and Air Defense of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (abbreviated RV and PVO) was one of the three types of the Yugoslav People's Army, intended for protection and supremacy in the airspace, as well as support for land, naval and total armed forces of SFRY. It was formally founded on May 21, 1942, during the People's Liberation Struggle, and with the disintegration of Yugoslavia (1992), it disappeared in its original form and was transformed into a new one, according to the newly created states.
In the period 1945-1992. year, the Air Force and Air Defense (RV and PVO) developed in accordance with the concept of JNA development, in the spirit of modern aircraft scientific thought, doctrine and technological development in the world. At the same time, our own staff, higher education and flexible doctrine of the application of air defense and air defense according to modern conditions have been developed and improved. Reliance on its own forces was a priority, and results were achieved in the development of a strong air defense and air defense, with a strong scientific and technological base, as evidenced by the export of about 200 military aircraft from its own development and production.
